May 9, 2013
Author: Support Services, e-PRO
According to the April 2013 National Housing Survey by Fannie Mae, over half of Americans expect that the home prices across the nation will begin to rise over the next year.
Other highlights of the survey include:
- 65% of the respondents said that they would buy a home if they were going to move.
- 48% of the respondents said that home rental prices will go up over the next year.
- The average 12-month home price change expectation remains at 2.7%
- The percentage of respondents that think mortgage rates will go up fell to 43%.
- The percentage of respondents that think mortgage rates will go down rose to 7%.
According to Doug Duncan, the senior vice president and chief economist at Fannie Mae, Crossing the 50 percent threshold marks a significant milestone as most Americans believe a housing recovery is truly occurring throughout the country. The share of Americans who think its a good time to sell has doubled during the last year. Many homeowners who have been underwater are gradually returning to positive equity, and selling is now becoming an available and attractive option again.
